Virtual Forum: The Pros and Cons of Earnings Guidance
    September 26, 2006
    3:30 – 5:15 p.m. E.T.

Many executives believe that providing quarterly earnings guidance helps them maintain good communications with investors, increase company visibility, reduce share price volatility and improve valuations. McKinsey analysis finds that the practice offers few of the expected benefits, but imposes real costs, particularly management time and an overemphasis on short-term performance. Executives should consider whether providing quarterly earnings guidance is necessary - or whether they would better serve their investors by focusing on what drives the underlying long-term performance of the business.

    Speaker:
    S.R. Rajan
    Senior Expert, Corporate Finance
    McKinsey & Company
